The Toys Of Our Youth

Seesaw

Remember when you were a child?  Do you remember how fresh and exciting everything used to be?

If you were fortunate enough, there was a simple toy from childhood that provided hours of great amusement.  It was simple in its construction, elegant in functionality and understated in its appearance.   We are speaking of the humble ‘Seesaw.’  Some called it a Teeter Totter.

The amazing thing about the Seesaw was that two children on opposite ends could have a gleeful time riding up and down, talking, laughing and doing what kids do when they play.  It was so simple in concept that its beauty and wisdom could easily be overlooked.

We are talking about the wisdom of balance.  Obtaining the proper balance in life can be very challenging.  Learning to successfully balance family, life, work, relationships, church activities and personal time can be extremely challenging.  There are a plethora of books and reading materials out there all promoting advice on the best ways to accomplish this.  However, we are not to offer you advice but rather to encourage you to review your relationship with The Lord.

We want to challenge you to look at how you balance your will versus the Lord’s Will.   How much weight do you put on your opinion and your knowledge versus the weight of God’s Word and His Will?  On the old-fashioned Seesaw, the child with the most weight could easily dominate the ride of the toy unless they exhibited a great kindness to the lesser.   How interesting is that the Lord who CLEARLY has more weight concerning EVERYTHING still allows us to play and ride.  Not only does He allow us to play and ride, but He also does not overpower us by pushing His Will upon us.

As Freewill agents, we can choose to follow after His Word, His Will, and His Ways. Or, we can choose to do something different.  In the moment that we choose to do something different, we have shifted the weight of assumption and responsibility to ourselves.   In that moment, we falsely assume that we have all of the answers.  In that moment, we falsely assume that it is our responsibility and that we have the power to make EVERYTHING work out. In that moment, we have solely taken on the full weight and responsibility of making our dreams and desires come to pass.  We have shifted the weight off of The One who is truly weighty, powerful and capable and instead placed it squarely on our own shoulders.

Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.“ -Psa 37:4 KJV

There is a profound difference between when we delight ourselves in ourselves by our work through plotting, scheming and manipulating in order manifest our desires versus when we delight ourselves in the Lord, and He gives our desires to us!  When we do it, the stress, the burden, and the frustrations all become ours.  When He does it, there isn’t any pain associated with it.  When He gives us our desires, there is great joy associated with it.

The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.” – Pro 10:22 KJV

The problem seems to be learning how to balance our need to work, ambition and desire to grow versus submitting to the Will of God.  Some people think that if they trust God that they will never get anything that they want. Some people have the opinion that God doesn’t want them to have anything nice or do well in life.  Some people perceive that their needs and desires are incongruous with The Lord’s Will.  Some people even go so far as to cheat, lie, steal and manipulate thinking it will gain them some advantage. And if that wasn’t enough, some will even mock those who desire to do the right things the right way. Rather than trust God, they mock Him. They chose to follow their desires and manipulations instead. The Bible puts it like this:

These people complain, find fault, follow their own desires, say arrogant things, and flatter people in order to take advantage of them. Dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ told you to expect: “In the last times people who ridicule God will appear. They will follow their own ungodly desires.”  -Jud 1:16-18 GW

Friends, it is so much easier and stress-free to heed the wisdom given in the Bible by The Lord.  So much unnecessary pain, headache, and suffering can be avoided simply by agreeing with God and His Word rather than being at odds with Him.  So many families would still be united together if only they followed whole-heartedly after the Word of God. So many people could avoid hurt, harm and danger if only they would follow God’s Word, His Will, and His Ways.

Agree with the Lord quickly. Study His Word and learn His Way.  Trust Him and allow Him to lead, guide and direct you in the way that He wants you to go.  In the end, you will be extremely glad to discover that His Ways are far better than anything you could have imagined. You will discover that the Godly things and desires that are in your heart are there because He placed them there. He wants you to be blessed.  And, He wants you to be blessed without any unnecessary grief, sorrow or lies.

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. “  -3Jn 1:2-4 KJV

Why fight with The One who is on the other end of the Seesaw? Why pit your will against His? Like the Seesaw, there is a balance required.  Yes, you have desires and things that you want in life, but God gives you Godly desires. And those Godly desires nestle and fit quite snuggly inside of God’s Will and plan for your life. Have faith! His plan will surely manifest in the right timing. But always keep your focus on Jesus. He is your provider.  He is your Source. When you submit your desires to God and His plan for your life, the balance becomes easy.  Like the Seesaw, the solution is simple, elegant and easy to employ. Simply submit your will to Him and say, “Yes, Lord.  Your Will not mine.”

So, the next time you find yourself on the Teeter Totter of life struggling to decide whether things should go according to your will or His, remember this…

Remember, that He is the Weightier One on the other end of the Seesaw who has decided in His Mercy, Graciousness, and Power to give us a joyful ride if we will just trust Him.

Let’s learn to trust The Lord, who is The Weightier One and just enjoy the ride of life. After all, He has great things in store for you!

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, “-Eph 3:20 KJV

An Apostolic and Prophetic View of God’s Process for Personal Growth and Ministry

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”

According to the Scripture, Romans 8:28 says- “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.”  The questions is, how do all these things work out to our benefit? God is a “God that declares “The End” from “The Beginning”.  However, we must understand that He is also a God of process. There is a process that takes from the beginning unto the end.
