All that glitters is not gold. With the internet, social media, tv, radio and the plethora of voices opining, it is more important than ever to discern the spirit behind the voice that is speaking. Yes, their words may sound logical, melodic and eloquent. Their words may be high-sounding, cleaver and well-articulated. But our question is, what is the spirit in operation behind the voice?
The scriptures admonish us…
“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” – Luk 6:45 KJV
The words that leap off of the page are: “…of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.”
The Amplified Bible says that last part like this:
“…for out of the abundance (overflow) of the heart his mouth speaks.”
We will translate this into our own amplified version of words which are…
“…People can’t help but talk about the true nature that is really in their hearts.”
The question is, are you really listening to who is talking and not just what they are saying? Are you listening to a good man who is bringing forth good treasure or are you listening to an evil man who is bringing forth an evil treasure?
Do you really have the ear to hear and discern the nature of what is good and evil of those to whom you listen? For those that have an ear to hear, evil and demonic influences will manifest in the speech patterns of the speaker. To hear them, you must learn to filter what they say through the filter of the Word of God. In order for you to filter them through the Word of God, you must read, study and internalize His Word. The Word of God is real. It is Truth. The more you experience the real, the quicker you will recognize the false. If their speech patterns don’t line up with His Word, then something is wrong.
The true danger comes when people begin to internalize the voices that are evil or that have been demonically influenced. The words which the enemy tries to release into our hearts are meant to ‘kill, steal and destroy’. Their words come to kill your hope. Their words come to steal your dreams. Their words come to destroy your faith. Like a cobra that undulates, their words have a hypnotizing effect. But at the end those words are a painful and poisonous bite.
How often have we stopped to eat at a fast food restaurant that served greasy junk food just because we were hungry and the hour was late? How easy is it to ‘eat’, ‘digest’ and internalize some good sounding words simply because your spirit man is hungry and thirsty or perhaps the situations in your life may be dark? Bad food always tastes good if you are hungry enough. Evil voices and demonically influenced speech always feels good to your fleshy and carnal nature if you are not used to eating the healthy and nutritional Word of God.
“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:” – 1 Jn 4:1-2
With that being said, just because they can speak the name of Jesus, doesn’t mean that they understand or even walk in His Word. They may have received salvation and are officially in the House of God, but for whatever reason, they may still be ignorant of understanding, void of maturity and lack the true purity of Holy Spirit led motivations.
We must be those who have learned to discern the true spirit and motives of those to whom we listen. We must be those who have learned how to apply the technique of ‘aggressive listening’. We must be those who proactively listen to ‘hear’ the voice of who is really speaking to us.
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: “ – Joh 10:27
Be obedient to follow His Voice and not the voice of another.
